Site Analysis

Mid Review Plan

The project began as an urban design scheme, but I quickly discovered that perhaps the best way to improve the urban realm of Shibuya to make it a destination again was not to dissect the existing urban fabric and infrastructure, but to keep the machinery of the train station and simple remove the unneccessary elements making the site more transparent and porous. The result is a much more coherent, rational and visually interesting train station the simplifies and movement from the seven different train lines on five different levels to the submerged bus terminal and the street level plazas opening up to the myriad of commercial/retail and entertainment venues that Shibuya offers.
